Vocabulary N°10

1. Star: A large,hot ball of gases, which is held together by gravity and gives off its own light.
    

  • I can´t count the stars of the sky.
2. Parallax: The apparent shift in an object´s location when viewed from two positions.

  • Astronomers use the parallax to measure distances to celestial bodies.
3. Light-year: The distance light travels in a year.


  • Astronomers use a unit called light-year(ly).
4. Constellation: A number of stars that appears to form a pattern.


  • Rigel is a star in the constellation Orion.
5. Magnitude: The brightness of a star.
 

  • There are two types of magnitude. The absolute and the  apparent magnitude.
6. Nebula: A cloud of gas and dust in space.


  • The nebula have hydrogen and gas.
7.Supernova: A star that explodes.


  • Supernova becames neuton stars.
8. Black Hole: An object whose gravity is so strong that light cannot escape it.

  • A black hole is a star.
