Vocabulary N°9

1. Comet: A ball of rock and ice that orbits the Sun.

  • Comets come from the outer fringes of the solar system.
2. Meteoroid: A small asteroid (rocky object that orbits the Sun), which may be  far out in the solar system or close to the inner planets.

  • You know that the meteors are small asteroids?


3. Meteor: A meteroid that enters Earth´s atmosphere and burns with a streak of light.

  • Most meteors can be seen on night.
4. Meteorite: Any part of a meteroid that reaches Earth´s surface.


  • Meteorite are found in the Moon or Mars.
