Vocabulary N°14

1. Hot Spot: A very hot part of the mantle, where magma can melt through a plate moving above it.

  • People believe that plates move over a hot spot.
2.Vent: A central opening in a volcanic area through which magma may escape.


  • The magma makes eruption in the vent.
3.Lava: Magma that reaches Earth´s surface and flows out of a vent.



  • The lava is form in the inner planets like Earth.
4.Crater: A cuplike hollow that forms at the top of a volcano around the vent.


  • The crater is a hollow where the magma erupts gases.
5. Cinder-cone volcano: A steep-sided cone that forms from explosive eruptions of hot rocks, ranging from particles to boulders.


  • Capulin Volcano is a cinder-cone volcano in New Mexico.
6. Shield Volcano: A wide,gently sloped cone that forms from flows of lava.

  • Kilauea is a shield volcano in Hawaii.
7. Composite Volcano: A cone formed from explosive eruptions of hot rocks followed by a flow of lava,over and over.


  • Mount Fuji is a volcano in Japan.
8. Geothermal Energy: Heat from below Earth´s surface.


  • The Geothermal Energy power plant build in United State was build in California.
